I started writing the Henry the hippo series for my niece who was born in Israel. I never saw a great deal of her and sent the stories to entertain her.

She gave them to other children is Israel who loved them and demanded more. My niece is now 23. It was her and my cousin Lesley who encouraged me to get them published.

Henry is modelled on one of three toy hippos who were given to me by my then boyfriend. He was throwing the littlest one around the room and when I told him to stop he said,

'He's a pilot, he can fly', and that is how it started.

The other four stories find him locked in a toy store, on walkabout in Australia, finding Pirates treasure and involuntarily joining the circus. These I hope to publish in the near future.
